Play is a universal language

I am officially convinced that play is a universal language. Our kids don't even speak the same language- 2 of them speak Haitian Creole- yet they hang out all day long speaking to one another as if they know exactly what the other means. Jameson doesn't seem to tire at all. When I think about it, I am really not surprised. They spent day after day in the orphanage with no real purpose but to play all day long. Neither of the kids have been formally educated. The structured schedule I am sure was almost non-existent in their young lives. We are slowly working our way into a routine. We may be homeschooling our way through the summer but I guess that is the beauty of it...to be able to set your own schedule so that we can experience "life" together.
Speaking of routine, I have been thinking of ways that we can add MA and J to the mix of chores (which is part of our routine). Jameson is fascinated with the washing machine. He about has that thing figured out. I guess it is pretty fascinating since the first trip we made to Haiti I observed 2 nannies washing clothes for 50+ children in a washing basin. After that I thought...I should never complain again about doing laundry again. Anyway, J came to me and asked me to wash his jacket (yes he has already learned how to say it in English:). Moments later he came down the stairs with his arms wrapped around a basket of laundry that needed cleaning- he even helped me load it into the washer. I think laundry will be one of Jameson's chores.
